HYDRANT VALVES
These are the valves controlling the flow of water to the fire hydrant outlet provision to attach the fire hose.
Types of Valves
- Gate Valves: They are used for full flow or no flow of water. When the value is opened the fluid flows in a straight line and no flow there is a significant drop in the water pressure because of low resistance to flow.
- Globe Valves: They have a unique design as they tend to change the flow direction twice. They are economical valves and have greater flow resistance.
- Needle Valves: For precise flow control these needle valves are used. As they give precision flow they have the capability to handle the low flow rates used in a chemical factory and are not used for fire projects as the flow has to be more and in high pressure.
- Ball Valves: These valves are operated manually with the help of the lever, which indicates to know whether the valve is open or not opened this can be done automatically using the actuator. They give excellent control of liquid flow in the valve by securing the shutoff.
- Check Valves: They are used to prevent the reversal of liquid flow in piping. The check valves remain open with the liquid flow and get close automatically when the flow is reversed.
- Butterfly valves: They are commonly used in thermal and hydroelectric power stations as they are lightweight, can be operated easily, and can be cleaned themselves. The pressure does not get drop even the value is opened.
